Bowen Island's Tuesday Art Workshop Art Exibition

The Art Workshop Exhibition at Bowen Court

Bowen Island's Tuesday Art Workshop will present “The Courage to Create” at Bowen Court, 1070 Miller Road. This exhibition, that opens Mother's Day weekend, is designed to appeal to all ages and will make a great family outing. Visitors will have the experience of art in progress as well as a view of finished works for sale. There are opportunities to browse through a variety of progressive experimental studies, plein air, preliminary drawings and how to use reference. An artist will be there each day to demonstrate skills and offer visitors a “hands on” opportunity to try different media. There will also be a draw for a door prize which is a basket of an exciting mix of artist's materials.
The Art Workshop has been meeting since 1967. Katie Carter was the initiator of the group which developed out of Katie's art education program. It is a friendly group with varied talents and interests. We enjoy the exchange of new ideas in a supportive and creative environment with a mid-morning break for home made goodies and lively conversation. Come and see our show and enjoy inspiration, enthusiasm and refreshments, Saturdays May 8th and 15th – 11:00am to 4:00pm and Sundays May 9th and 16th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm

The Mad Tea Party

I have 6 original framed illustrations in the show, one of them being the popular "Alice's adventures in Wonderland, The Mad Tea Party".
Hope to see you there!

Awaiting the Britannia

Painted for the Bowen Island Arts Council Mini Gala. Every year the artists of Bowen Island donate an original piece of artwork that is auctioned off to raise money for the Art Gallery (BIAC). This was my submission this year "Awaiting the Britannia", the ship that brought many thousands of visitors to the island beginning in 1900. I was very excited that it was sold on the opening evening. It was a fabulously fun night, with wine, humor and many original pieces of art to admire.

Sea to Sky Postcard

I painted this postcard for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. It's a combination of 3 of our local West side Bowen Island beaches. The Mountains in the background including Black Tusk can be seen from Crayola beach. The Boats were inspired from Bowen Bay beach, the Cliff was King Edward Bay, and the Arbutus tree is my artistic license. The Snug Cove General Store, Phoenix Photo, as well as Cate's Pharmacy bough cards to sell in their stores. I love our community, it is so very supportive. I had the cards printed using Tree Free paper and Soy based low VOC inks. It costs more, but it's worth it to save a tree. I'm also happy to report that the original painting was sold! Cheers to small successes.
