A call for entry was put out by The Muskoka Arts and Crafts Inc. to inform G8 leaders, through their artwork, of issues of public concern in their countries. The postcards sent to this exhibition will form a lasting body of personal and political communiques to world leaders as the G8 briefly dominates the mainstream media.
Bowen Island's Tuesday Art Workshop will present “The Courage to Create” at Bowen Court, 1070 Miller Road. This exhibition, that opens Mother's Day weekend, is designed to appeal to all ages and will make a great family outing. Visitors will have the experience of art in progress as well as a view of finished works for sale. There are opportunities to browse through a variety of progressive experimental studies, plein air, preliminary drawings and how to use reference. An artist will be there each day to demonstrate skills and offer visitors a “hands on” opportunity to try different media. There will also be a draw for a door prize which is a basket of an exciting mix of artist's materials. The Art Workshop has been meeting since 1967. Katie Carter was the initiator of the group which developed out of Katie's art education program. It is a friendly group with varied talents and interests. We enjoy the exchange of new ideas in a supportive and creative environment with a mid-morning break for home made goodies and lively conversation. Come and see our show and enjoy inspiration, enthusiasm and refreshments, Saturdays May 8th and 15th – 11:00am to 4:00pm and Sundays May 9th and 16th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm
The Mad Tea Party
I have 6 original framed illustrations in the show, one of them being the popular "Alice's adventures in Wonderland, The Mad Tea Party". Hope to see you there!
Bluebell was the name my Grandfather gave his first boat. Built from scratch, it was truly a labor of love. Since childhood I have been drawing, crafting and painting, art has always been my favorite pastime. Bluebelle Design is my labor of love. My dream is to illustrate children’s books, how wonderful it would be to inspire young minds. Although I am primarily self-taught in the world of illustration, I graduated from Vancouver Film School in 1999, and have been putting my creative energy to good use as a compositor for film and TV. Working in the visual effects industry has helped me develop an eye for composition, light and colour. I am proud to have been nominated for two Leo's, a Gemini, a VES and an Emmy award for my work. Over the years I have been commissioned to do many pieces, including large scale murals, wedding invitations and gift cards. My preferred medium is water-colour paints, their effects can be hauntingly beautiful as the water and paint dry to create a truly organic work of art.
