I painted this postcard for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. It's a combination of 3 of our local West side Bowen Island beaches. The Mountains in the background including Black Tusk can be seen from Crayola beach. The Boats were inspired from Bowen Bay beach, the Cliff was King Edward Bay, and the Arbutus tree is my artistic license. The Snug Cove General Store, Phoenix Photo, as well as Cate's Pharmacy bough cards to sell in their stores. I love our community, it is so very supportive. I had the cards printed using Tree Free paper and Soy based low VOC inks. It costs more, but it's worth it to save a tree. I'm also happy to report that the original painting was sold! Cheers to small successes. If you would like a postcard you can find one here on my Etsy store
Bluebell was the name my Grandfather gave his first boat. Built from scratch, it was truly a labor of love. Since childhood I have been drawing, crafting and painting, art has always been my favorite pastime. Bluebelle Design is my labor of love. My dream is to illustrate children’s books, how wonderful it would be to inspire young minds. Although I am primarily self-taught in the world of illustration, I graduated from Vancouver Film School in 1999, and have been putting my creative energy to good use as a compositor for film and TV. Working in the visual effects industry has helped me develop an eye for composition, light and colour. I am proud to have been nominated for two Leo's, a Gemini, a VES and an Emmy award for my work. Over the years I have been commissioned to do many pieces, including large scale murals, wedding invitations and gift cards. My preferred medium is water-colour paints, their effects can be hauntingly beautiful as the water and paint dry to create a truly organic work of art.
